Looking to get an X5

My wife and I are looking to get an X5 since we just had a baby. We're also looking to get something 4WD to get around in the winter. We found a couple in the area and this one is currently 1st on our list. Thoughts on whether this is a good deal or not?

Year: 2006 3.0i
Mileage: 37K
Price: $30K (w/ CPO for 2-yr/50000 miles)
Misc: I can't tell what packages are with the car but it doesn't look like there is much.

According to KBB, its a good deal since they have it at $31.7.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply cheappc.

There is another one with lower mileage (27K) but not CPO and they're asking $28K.

I have an 05 4.4 for sale with 83K on the clock. fully loaded - nav. I'll take 25 for it shipped. BTW BMW still offers warranty's on their cars that are under 100K so you can still get it covered if yu wish. PM me your Email and I'll send you the details if you are interested.

Paid around 32k for a 06 4.8 with 40k and its fully loaded so i am assuming they are adding that much to it because its a cpo. I think you should shop around some more. Try auto trader and you should also be willing to buy out of state.BTW mine is not a CPO and i have yet to have any issues other than regular service.

Well I know Canada is much pricer but I paid 38,000$ Canadian for 05 4.4i with 32,000km. Which was great deal from BMW dealer. Added 3 year warranty in as well since the x5 is great but can be quite ridiculous to service which I have already found out. Just be prepared for that if you pick one up. Not saying you will encounter issues but be prepared and site parts online before the dealer!
Also just had a baby myself and x5 has been just great for the family compared to my subaru Wrx. And it makes You not miss having a car as much since it drives so very well. And as far as x5 and winter, not with the stock all seasons but with winter tire set up it is quite impressive so unless your dead set on winter vehicle the x5 will treat you great. Not sure what your winters are like but as far north as I am located they get pretty bad!

This is the old body style; keep that in mind.

How long do you plan to keep it? What's your per month budget for a vehicle?

If safety is the driving concern, consider the MDX as well. Both get great crash scores and the MDX has more useable space.

If you want the BMW driving experience, look no further. The price feels 2-3k too high especially if there aren't many options. If you plan to resell eventually, make sure you get xenon, leather seats at least on the options.

We do plan on keeping the vehicle for as long as we can. Right now, we would like to stay around $500/month but we have room to be flexible. I've been a BMW fan and owned a couple BMWs so I would like to stay with it.

Wow..thanks for all the feedback so far. Sounds like I should be able to get a better deal for a 3.0i or a 4.4 at that price.

K.I.M - thanks for the offer but I am looking for something with less miles.
lion - I would love to be able to get a deal like yours.
xriderob - yea..I do plan on getting warranty with this purchase since I know BMW can be expensive to maintain (I currently have an '01 e46 M3). also good to hear that the X5 is great for baby seat . That's one of the main reason why we're looking at it.

It might be worth checking out the following thread to help identify what options/packages on on the car. That would help some of us with 'good deal' 'bad deal' opinions. For example, I expect that many wouldn't buy an X5 without Premium package, and there's a price hit accordingly if it doesn't have it. I think the used market game is won by getting a great price on a heavily optioned (i.e, big $$ sticker when new) X5. The spread between a lightly optioned one and a heavily optioned one in the used market is less than the spread when new, so why not get one with all the goodies (other than maybe a bit more complexity!)?
