How often does this happen to you ...

You're driving along and somebody in a nice sports car (usually with mods) pulls up beside you to give a thumbs up.

Or you're at a local home depot parking lot and someone comes up to you to say nice things about your X.

This usually doesn't happen to me (because its not my daily driver) but recently I've had a rash of 'incidents' like these. I've been driving her for a week as I'm trying to hunt down some gremlins. Maybe it happens more frequently and I just don't know it - have to ask my wife and see what she says.

Anyways, this really made my day(s) and reminds me of why I love my X!

Share your experiences!

I love the looks I get when I load sheet-rock, ply-wood, 4x4s etc. at the home depot. Some people are shocked to see an X5 used as a utility vehicle. I once strapped 16 4x4x8s on my OEM roofracks. (in retrospect, not a very smart idea, I was lucky nothing broke) On the way out of the lot I got a round of applause from a group of guys that were loading there pick-up with lumber. People forget just how capable the X5 is!
It ain't just for stylin'!

It happens to me all the time with the X6. A few times a week, sometimes more. The guy in the ///M6 on the highway last week was the best so far. He was pulled up next to me, gave me the and then followed my lead for a while.

Just twice with the X5. First time was when I rented a 34' Genie hydraulic boom lift on a trailer. (If you are going to put up Christmas lights, got to do it right). The rental yard didn't think I could tow it, having never seen a BMW in their yard, and so gave lots of thumbs up. It towed fine, but it was rather long. The second time was when I towed a 20' x 8' tandem axle flatdeck heavy equipment trailer that a parade float was built on (it was essentially empty, and we were going 10 kph). The X5 handled the parade fine.

Random thumbs up used to happen regularly with the Z4, and even more so with my Morgan +4 sports car.

My wife had mentioned quite a few times that guys always stare at her X5 at the lights. Mostly in the summer after I put on the HRE's.

I had a guy park next to my 330xi and wait for me to come out of a Safeway so that he could ask me about my mods. It was funny because I think he waited for at least 30 minutes and the Safeway was closing so we were the only 2 cars in the parking lot. If he wasn't also driving a BMW I would have been a bit worried as I walked up to my car.

Well, these are very nice...I wish I had some to share with mine, but alas, I do not.

HOWEVER, apparently, I'm driving the wrong motor carriage. At the recent Mt. Laurel event, I had a chance to drive L's beast, or T-re(X) for short. I only drove her for a half a mile, and got to a stop light. What do I see accross from me, but a beautiful X5 E70 with the sports package, 20", etc...He crosses over the road I'm on, and gives me the . So he was driving my auto (or simliar) and gave me the while driving L's T-reX.

Titz pic, JCL!

I get remarks and compliments all the time; most can't believe it is 9 yrs old and,
basically a decade+ old design. E53s still look outstanding to this old eye.

And, when I haul crap in it, the Lowe's or HomeDepot or, local nursery joint guys
can't believe how it swallows stuff up, and that it really is a useful suv...

I had a guy in a dodge hemi pick up with an exhaust pull up and was loving the sound of my exhaust. That was a real surprise. My wife drives mine and get complements all the time.
