CBV Replacement, Quick question HELP! Weasel!

Im undergoing a massive job on the X5, new crank breather valve among a long list, and i found that when I removed the hose from the CBV down to the dipstick tube, thick sludge came out. I then decided to take the whole dipstick tube out and clean it out. So I am getting the sludge out of that little elbow, and it will just fill up with brake cleaner, it will not pour through and come out the bottom of the tube. Are these two tubes connected internally????? I cannot figure this out and have already burned an hour trying to clean it out. Pictures talk best:
