Where to get oil change?

My X5 needs to get oil change. No more warranty.

My local dealer, BMW SF, has a special $69 oil change Incl. Up to 7.0 qts of 5/30w Synthetic Motor Oil & Filter.

Is 7 qts enough or they will charge me for more?

Is $69 a good price, or should I just go other place like Speedee etc.?

What's a good price to pay?

TIA.

Which engine do you have?

My dealer just changed my oil with 8 quarts in my 3.0. I would recommend DIY. Buy the oil at Wal-Mart. You can get jugs of Mobil 1 there for cheap. Buy an OEM filter and rings and your good to go. If you can't DIY, those quickie lube places won't use full synthetic and if they do, they charge a premium for it. They all seem to use Penzoil.

I think $69 isn't that bad and if you have to spring for one or two extra quarts of oil, it's still not bad. If you're in the city you might not have a choice if you have nowhere to DIY.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.

My X5 is 3.0 too.

I was just checking Speedee, and Midas and they offered Maintenance Package (oil change + other maintenances) for $29.95 with 5 quarts of premium 5w30.

Thinking that my car had been idle for few months, and I just put it back to live today changing a new battery; I thought I will need to do an oil change, and while at it Midas or Speedee can help me do a check up on the car with those packages.

I'm just worried that their oils are not synthetic or good oil for the car. Furthermore, BMW charge $69 and that's only for oil change.

It's a decision I have to make...

Your 3.0 will hold 99% of 8 qts...not 7, not 6.

You have choices, bu I don't know your area for local biz:
-DIY as PNG/K suggested and detailed in this v.informative link by Hayaku found on the Info front page of this site:
http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-83.html
-The Stlr...ask what their price is for "oil&filter", not other bs in some rip "pkg". (May be good alt for time or DIY challenged!)
-A BMW oriented privateer garage; ask what oil they are using. Any top shelf full synthetic Brand is fine, imo.
-A quick lube joint, (my last choice). Many do have Mobil 1, et al, but few have the filter. Some allow you to buy filter from Stlr or AutoZone, (Deutsch brand is identical), and bring it with you, but that's an extra trip hassle and the "techs" at most of these joints are kids struggling through Industrial Arts classes, imo.

Take your pick..it's an Oil Change. This is not nuclear physics!

I'd jump on that special from the dealer. The synthetic oil isn't cheap, nor is the filter. That's not a bad price, and you should be better off have the mechanics at the dealer do this then the local 10 minute quick lube joint.

Note that your Midas coupon is good for only 5 quarts and does not apply to synthetic oil (read the fine print). I bet that by the time they add in the extra oil and the up-charge for the synthetic (and they likely won't have the filter), their price will be about the same as the dealers.
