Glad to hear you came out of it as well as you did, and hope that you heal up soon. Looks like the X5 protected you.

Glad to hear you and your GF are okay, I wish you a speedy recovery.

Interestingly, this morning I was reading about airbag safety and technology , and I was feeling smug about our X5's safety features compared to many older vehicles and makes....

I am kind of reconsidering upon hearing that your side airbag did not go off when that side was struck at all.

I understand that the computer calculates (speed, angle, deceleration, passenger occupancy, seat belt use) to determine how much pressure and when/if to deploy certain airbags, but surely any impact on the right side doors should have triggered inflation.

Having said that, the X obviously did its ultimate job!

wow

This is such a great community! I really appreciate all the great and kind replies. It was awesome to read every single reply one by one made me feel better after every reply!

Thank you all so very much. The only 2 things that have me wanting to stick with the X5 now and not continue towards a different BMW is this community and those sick Depo Headlights (Thanks EaS )

Im going to be looking for an 03 4.4 around my area once this is all said and done. Although to be honest I feel like an 03 is for me rather then an 04 simply because of those amazing headlights, sounds stupid huh? :P

Anyways Ill keep in touch with some updates, Thanks once again to everyone on here

Benefits of 04 and up is valvetronic engine, x-drive transfer case and updated headlights... Benefits of 03 and earlier is non-valvetronic ebgine, non x-drive transfer case and more customizable headlights! 6 of one, half dozen the other.

As a tech I prefer the non-valvetronic engine so I'll never have to worry about the intermediate levers wearing, but love the exhaust note on startup and low end sound of the valvetronic engine. But if you get a 3.0i it is the same engine either way. I'm torn with the transfer case... I love the functionality of the x-drive, but know the cost of replacement when the clutches wear and cause the shudder while driving.

All a matter of personal needs/wants/preferences.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I have the same year and color X5 and would be really depressed if it got totalled. If you don't end up using the headlights on your next one hit me up.
