Skid Plate Instalation

Well I took my x5 into the tulsa bmw dealer to install the skid plate...first they said it required no painting..then after they remove from the box they said it needs painting..they took it down to the local paint shop and did it for $80..

Then they coudlnt figure out how to install..they said the instructions did not work..they ended up drilling holes in my bumper to large...so I was told they are going to have to replace my entire bumper with another x5 on the lot...then they will try and install the skid plate...

Anyone had any experience with this?

ok the saga continues:

Today I went to the dealership to pick up the car..they had replaced the bumper and installed the skid plate..looked ok..it did not attach firmly to the top of the bumper, there was adhisive that really didnt stick...

After i got it home and went back to the garage to examine, one of the screws had come out and was dangeling at the end..I immediatly drove it back to the dealer...when I got out of the car the entire plate had come off and was hanging touching the ground...They removed the plate and said they would have to come up with another way to attach after thanksgiving...At least they did not charge me labor for all this mess! They said this was the most difficult instalation they have ever done...

Can you post some photos!
You do mean the oem accessory skid plate?
How can those guys be BMW dealers? With all Bmw accessories you get a printed set of instructions and they DO work!

I too am amazed at the ineptitude that your dealer seems to be showing here. It's not rocket science to put one on

At least it's not on your dime.

Wow, I'm a lost for words at this statement from your incompetent dealer. Like UCrew said it's not rocket science, no where close. Sorry to hear your bad luck but I'd be extremely mad if I were you and would demand some kind of compensation. If I'm not mistaken Rob has done this installation himself before. I would lose this dealer if there's another one in your area. Good luck in getting it fixed!
