How often does this happen to you ...

You're driving along and somebody in a nice sports car (usually with mods) pulls up beside you to give a thumbs up.

Or you're at a local home depot parking lot and someone comes up to you to say nice things about your X.

This usually doesn't happen to me (because its not my daily driver) but recently I've had a rash of 'incidents' like these. I've been driving her for a week as I'm trying to hunt down some gremlins. Maybe it happens more frequently and I just don't know it - have to ask my wife and see what she says.

Anyways, this really made my day(s) and reminds me of why I love my X!

Share your experiences!

I love the looks I get when I load sheet-rock, ply-wood, 4x4s etc. at the home depot. Some people are shocked to see an X5 used as a utility vehicle. I once strapped 16 4x4x8s on my OEM roofracks. (in retrospect, not a very smart idea, I was lucky nothing broke) On the way out of the lot I got a round of applause from a group of guys that were loading there pick-up with lumber. People forget just how capable the X5 is!
It ain't just for stylin'!

It happens to me all the time with the X6. A few times a week, sometimes more. The guy in the ///M6 on the highway last week was the best so far. He was pulled up next to me, gave me the and then followed my lead for a while.

Just twice with the X5. First time was when I rented a 34' Genie hydraulic boom lift on a trailer. (If you are going to put up Christmas lights, got to do it right). The rental yard didn't think I could tow it, having never seen a BMW in their yard, and so gave lots of thumbs up. It towed fine, but it was rather long. The second time was when I towed a 20' x 8' tandem axle flatdeck heavy equipment trailer that a parade float was built on (it was essentially empty, and we were going 10 kph). The X5 handled the parade fine.

Random thumbs up used to happen regularly with the Z4, and even more so with my Morgan +4 sports car.

Titz pic, JCL!

I get remarks and compliments all the time; most can't believe it is 9 yrs old and,
basically a decade+ old design. E53s still look outstanding to this old eye.

And, when I haul crap in it, the Lowe's or HomeDepot or, local nursery joint guys
can't believe how it swallows stuff up, and that it really is a useful suv...

I had a guy in a dodge hemi pick up with an exhaust pull up and was loving the sound of my exhaust. That was a real surprise. My wife drives mine and get complements all the time.

Oh man! Your experiences are more exciting/interesting than mine.

That's what's so great about this forum. So many different people from all walks and stages of life.

I use the Ford Exploder for any large items on Home Depot runs. Even though the X already has it share of scratches, curb rash, etc.

JCL ... that must be a lot of work keeping that mansion maintained!

Keep them coming!

Too many X's in the Bay Area so nothing really special about them. I do however get a lot of inquiries and compliments on my M5.

My dad went to Home Depot with our X6 to buy some plumbing or painting equipment. When he was leaving, some guy in a 3 series told him it was a very nice car. Other times, my dad would be in a white T-shirt and worn/dirty/paint stained jeans getting out of our 3 series to buy other things at Home Depot. That thing would get stares. One last incident would be with our old X5 diesel driving the the Home Depot parking lot. People never expected that noise to be coming from it!
