Don't get it ??? HELP

Was on the HWY driving today when all of a sudden a felt like kick like I was rear ended but wasn't. Then on the dash TRANNY FAIL SAFE PROGRAM popped up then went away. The X drove kindy sluggish for the next couple of miles and when I exited the pick up was slow. I would give gas then it would just rev then catch on and go again. I made the turn and then it seems like everything went back to normal and the dash light went away. I parked the car at a friends and went inside his place....4-5 hrs later when I went to go home I got nothing, doors wouldn't open nothing, as if I left the lights on or something. Put the key in the ignition and get nothing absolutely nothing, no power no light no nothing......I'm puzzled, what should I do ? Should I try boosting it just in case I left something on or should I tow it to the garage in fear of causing more damage....???? Somebody help
