"Upgrade" the tyres? You mean "downgrade"!Seems like because of the bad roads in NYC ,you want a higher profile tyre to withstand better those pot holes.
Your oem wheels are perfectly matched to your 275 front and 315 rear.Fitting of a higher profile tyre will mean you have to reduce its width! Some members here use the 295/40/20 all round and this seems to be the more suited tyre for your conditions.
Alternatively, you can part-exchange your oem wheel tyre set up for lesser wheels like the oem 19s or 18s!I am sure there will be plenty of takers!!!

Then you really have no other choice but to get the 295/40/20.Although this tyre is 40 profile ,it is 40 in relation to the width of 295,meaning that you will have more tyrewall than your 275/40 front, which will give you more wheel protection and your ride will be more confortable.

BTW forgot to say :welcome:

Hey March374, welcome to X5wolrd and congrats on an awesome new 4.8!! For NY winter I'd suggest going with this setup: 255-55-18 dedicated winter tires mounted on 18x8.5 wheels. Save the OEM 20s for the other 3 seasons and you're all set to go. The other suggestion is to drive carefully around those potholes with the 20's.
