Stereo issues, no sound from speakers

car - 2006 X5 3.0 w/DSP and nav

I had a cooler in my trunk that leaked. I now have no sound coming from the speakers. Happened on 7/17 (over a week ago)

Display is fine, navigation is working, bluetooth shows calls coming in, radio displays stations and songs that are playing.

bmw couldn't take me in until yesterday for service.

Their diagnosis is the radio is dead, it's sitting in water and I may need an amp also. If both, I'm looking at 2 grand to replace.

Questions:
1. Does it make sense the radio is dead if it's still showing stations and songs on the display but the amp may be fine with no sound coming through?
2. What parts do I need? he quoted radio 65126988276 and amp 65126940977, is this right?
3. Am I better off buying these parts used from a recycler like bavarian, or new?
4. Can I install myself?
5. Other options?
6. SA mentioned that I should call my insurance to see if they'll cover this, good option?

Thanks in advance, sorry for the long post.

Mark
