Looking for pics with Luggage Racks (baskets)
I'm looking for pics and or links for a place I might find a Luggage Basket/Rack. I'm also looking for something specific since it has to fit in between my bike racks on my '06 X. I have 28" in between the bike racks and I'm using the OE BMW cross bars with Yakima bike racks. Here's what I'm actually looking for that I found in an older 3 Series parts magazine (might have been from Germany though). Luggage Racks for Profile 2000. Part no: 82 129 401 483 or the biger brother Part no: 82 12 9 413 104 Here's a pic of what it looks like. I've also found the Yakima "Basketcase" that would fit as an option. Looking forward to what you guys have or recommend. Thanks!

Try this: BMW E53 X5 N62 4.4L > Exterior > View All > ES#196132 Aluminum Luggage Basket - 82120442358
No dimensions though. |

Interesting, ECS have quoted the wrong part number for the image there (or vice-versa):
RealOEM CLICKY #1 RealOEM CLICKY #2 The narrow one would fit, but it looks like it's NLA. Keep an eye on ebay etc. I guess. |

getBMWparts.com powered by Tischer BMW - Your #1 Source for all OEM BMW Parts/Accessories! It has the same part number as ECS but looks like a newer model. I'm guessing ECS is using the older photo but would stock the newer rack. |

With only 28" in between the bike racks I don't think you'll find a cargo basket. I think that silver Thule/BMW OEM rack is nice but it is discontinued and too wide anyway.
I think you'll have to go with a cargo box. Yakima makes a 24" wide box. The advantage there is first off, it will fit between (or beside) your racks, in addition to your cargo being protected from the elements, and greater aerodynamics than having bags strapped in a basket. You do not have to mount the box in between the racks. It would be better to mount the racks side by side and the box on the other. Here is an example of that setup with Thule products. ![]() We use a Thule Atlantis 1800 cargo box on our Audi with OEM racks and when my OEM bars arrive for my X5, the box will go on that too. We have gone through rain with it and it has kept everything safe and sound. A basket will not keep your gear/bags clean and dry. I'm not sure what you want to haul but if you can, a box is the way to go. If you want something low profile, Inno brand boxes are very slick.

Thanks for all the good info guys. I'll give it some more thought and try and call a few of these websites tomorrow and find out what they have.
The idea of a box is actually growing on me and might make more sense. I just don't have a lot of room to store it when I'm not using it. Thanks again for the links.

The rack crossbars and some other things live inside.I think you'd really like the box. Not only does it protect your stuff and be more aerodynamic (fuel savings, less wind noise) but you can store smaller items. For example, I often pack the cargo box and pull the internal straps tight and then remember there are a couple of jackets or loose items and I can just toss them in, close the lid and lock it up. You'd be surprised at how much you can fit in a cargo box if packed correctly.
