It is actually built into the left rear side window, in the rear hatch area. The most common cause of reception issues is metal based window tint. If your windows are tinted that may be the cause.

Hey, i just wanted to update my problem. It seems the AM channels are working fine, but the FM channels have no sound only a buzzing noise. If you could tell me possible problems and solutions incoperated with this. Pictures would be even better!

The previous owner had window tint installed and my radio reception and the key remotes don't work very good. You have to be within 5 feet from the car to get the remote to work unless you hold the key to your chin or body part. Does anyone know if you could add a shark fin antenna to the roof like the newer X5's and how much trouble it would be?

My bmw x5 does not have tinted windows, and my reception worked fine before.
