Unfortunately it has to be ordered by VIN from BMW. Don't make the same mistake many others have made and get a blank and have it cut, as it won't be able to start the truck.

The reason for this is the rolling codes need to match from the key to the EWS immobilizer in the vehicle, and they can not be programmed in to the key after.

Weasel, I assumed that a key can be reprogrammed with a GT1 system. Did anyone try that?

The rolling code is set in the key from the factory and can not be changed, not even the new 3G dealer programming system can do it. The programming systems can align the rolling codes between the DME and EWS, but can't set the list of codes in the key.

Or you could hard mount the old key near the steering column and use the cheapo blank to start the car at least according to some of the racers out there who use a toggle switch to start their cars w/EWS (and they didn't cut the wire).

You dont need to buy another key if its only the Battery.
Look under X5 How To's.
Battery should be around $5US. I did one last month.
Even works in Australia LOL MISCELLANEOUS

It look like the key cant be open, I went to my local mechanic ( he has a X5 4.8 ) he confirmed the key is sealed and cant be open without possibly damaging it. I'm going to follow your suggestion and search a little more before I have to throw 200$ for a key.

P.S: Do you happen to have pics of what you did, like showing the step or how do you open the key.

Thanks
