Can my screen be fixed?

I have had this huge spot on Nav screen for a few months now. Does anyone know what causes this? Is it due to direct sunlight? The X is in the garage when at home, but parked in the sun while at work. I've been trying to give it some shade by using a windshield screen for the past couple of months, but that doesn't seem to have made much of a difference.

I'd really like to know if it can be fixed without costing me an arm and a leg? She is a 2002 model.

Please help.

I think you need to replace the LCD. Very easy to do just buy the LCD online. It's a SHARP Lcd. I think they are about $130USD. And just a couple of hours and some patience to remove the old screen. Took myself and a friend to replace his abour 2 hours.
