A/C question
does the ac compressor cycle on and off (when in use) as in cars without climate control?? or does it stay on all the time and adjusts temp up or down by adding / subtracting hot air to control temp ??? i have a 2005 3.0d and to me it seems as if it just stays on all the time, i could be wrong i havent actually stood outside the car and listened i dont have a problem, just curious, i,m assuming that the ac system is going to be the same across the different engine combinations Ewen |

You mean in cars with manual dials? I have the manual one (not the dual zone digital display) and yes, it stays on all the time... when i freeze, i turn the compressor off myself, then on (i do the climate control myself :s)... the temperature seems to just control the coldness of the air that is being pumped as u said...

im talking about the duel zone system, and yes thats what i do, i set it to the lowest setting 16 degrees and turn it off when it gets to cold, i cant see the sense in running the compressor full time and then adding heat to control the temp.
ive seen instance where the compressors have had to be changed due to failure and it seems if the thing is constantly running then that could be the reason, also seems counterproductive to fuel economy. |
