Burnin Oil at 88K!!!

Hello All

I have an 4.4 and it has been using oil since it was under warranty. unfortunately I didn;t get this adressed at that time. Well any way I noticed when I sit at idle for a while it actually smokes out of the exhaust. Any ideas?? I'm thinking something with the crankcase ventillation??

Weasel will become famous soon enough
It is quite possible it could be from the crankcase ventilation... Usually somewhere between that mileage and 100k is when the V8's are due for intake reseal with rear cover, which is also a good time to do the valley pan since the intake would be off.

If it isn't the crankcase ventilation system it could be either valve guides and/or rings... but that usually isn't a problem.

What are they symptoms of the crankcase ventillation going out, besides oil consuption? Where does the oil go? Is it just burned in the engine?

My 90K 4.4i seems to be using a little too much oil for my tastes (1 quart per 1000 miles, I think).
