Driver's side seat warmer keeps shutting off

Anyone got an explanation for this? It won't stay for more than 5 minutes, and will maybe stay warm for two or three of those 5. It's really annoying and on the driver's side only. The worst part is that I'm on vacation and can't take it apart to check. Any ideas?

Just got a new driver's side lower seat cover in, have to swap it out this weekend and see. If it isn't that, I'll replace the switches next.

Whats the Word? Did that fix it? I have taken apart the switch and tried to clean it the best i could. Seemed to help a little bit but still shuts off when it wants too. I have heard that there is a thermometer in the seat that causes problems sometimes.. maybe thats the problem...

I had the same prob. Mine had shorted out. It actually burned a hole in the left seat bolster and I was able to see it sparking at night. Dealer replaced the cushion with element and seat cover and haven't had the prob since.

The problem is its a 2001 and not under warranty anymore. So how much was the repair.

Did you just buy it recently? That's what happened to me. I purchased it used from a BMW dealer and only had a 30 day warranty on it. Took it back in 45 days or so and just demanded they do it as it is a fire hazard. Made up some BS story about it burning my wife, yada yada yada. And they replaced it.
