Hi Newbie checking in with a question or 2
I'm new to X5 world. I'm a UK RX-8 230 owner hoping to seel my RX-8 but no stranger to car forums so hopefully I will not ask to many daft questions. I've asked siome questions on BMW Land re ownership.. After an early 286HP 4.4i X5. I have spent many hours researching X5 on here and on other internet sites before my decision. Never had a BMW before but fairly knowledgable re various models as have condsidered same before. Never owned but early interst from M1 and 3.0 CSL as a child kept the interest alive. Coming from a Sub 7 sec 0-60 car I have opted for the 4.4i. I hope to move house soon so I want to keep purchase outlay sensible and cant presently justify late diesel, 4.6 or 4.8. ( Not knocking any non 4.4i cars I must add). Anyone bought secondhand and had any silly service bills/repairs. I say this because some swear by BMW claiming they are ultra reliable yet some say the reason they are reliable is because the main delaers replace bits at significant cost. Recently spoke to an ex M5 E39 owner who claimed his warrantied secondhand car cost him 20k in bills in a year. Any problems with rear suspension or other concerns ? Will hopefully use a very good independent for servicing. I was expecting £300 on small service £4-500 on big one at independent am I way out ? Aware re quoted MPG and keen to know if 19mpg attainable on a rural commute This is similar to posts I made in another forum so apologies for anyone reading both sites. Any thoughts appreciated. Any great UK deals on tyres less than £200 per corner Hope you wont mind me hanging around a while thanks Last edited by AW8; 11-25-2005 at 07:24 AM. |

:welcome: to X5 World! Ive had three Bimmers and still have no "technical" clue about them. I do know that I have never experienced any major problems with any of them. SOme people have expressed some nagging problems with '01, '02 models (window regulators, etc) But Im sure they could elaborate on them better than I can. There are some tyre places around, of course it will depend on your size. You can also check www.tirerack.com for good prices IMO, and the shipping ain't that bad either. BTW, Where are you located? Im about 20 minutes north of Cambridge...Again, :welcome:

Are you looking to get a new X5, or a "previously-loved" one? I don't know about BMW in the UK, but in the USA all maintenance is free for 4 years/50,000 miles.
