Rotars and pads replaced today and problem resolved. No more steering shudder at any speed and it only cost me £30 to get them replaced

Good luck on the med-long term remedy you are feeling...when I got new front rotors and pads, the affliction came back in less than a week.
It came and went over time/years, after that. New tires and very accurate balancing seemed like the next cure, a yearish ago...the effect is starting to return again, slightly. I still have not read a step by step, process of elimination, parts replacement exercise here that pin points the "cause", lol! GL, mD

vibration.
i have a procut on car brake lathe. it is a fantastic machine that skims the brake discs while still fitted to the car. if your brake discs are still within limits it will make them like new at a fraction of the cost. i like to use it when ever we replace pads as you get the full life out of them and avoid nasty wheel wobble.
look at their website on Pro-Cut USA On-Car Brake Lathes. i think they have a section where you can ask for a service center in your area. |

Hi ive recently developed the same problem on my X, mine is an '04 3.0d. Started getting a shudder/wobbling through my steering wheel when braking over 50mph, once the car has slowed down to around the 40mph mark it die's down and stops. I was told it was the front discs but had those changed and the problem still exists, im guessing by other posts that i have read it must be the control arm but looking for clarification as to whether its the upper or lower control arm. Would be most grateful if someone could let me know.

Hello! I have all the problems listed above and tested the "thrust rod bush" on the front left. Found it was moveable by hand! This allowed the wheel to move heaps under rapid braking or hard cornering. The bush acts as a mini shock absorber for the steering components and cops a lot of abuse while driving. It is the arm that angles forward at 45 degs. Hope this helps!
