Gear shift surround

I'm new to the board, but have spent some time on others (had a MB ML500)... So I've done my searches and can't find an answer (I wouldn't be lazy and ask without searching first).
Can anyone tell me if there is a Titanium trim piece for the gear shift surround to match the interior door pulls & latches. I'd rather not have to use after market trim that is applied.

btw - this is a great place to spend time. THANKS

Are you talking about the black piece or the console trim that is silver in the picture below

As far as I know, that piece is only available from BMW in black. That doesn't mean, though, that you can't paint it to a color of your liking.

My 4 month old X5 has a couple of areas in the leather overlying the gearshift that appear worn! No specific trauma that I am aware of. Think I can get the dealer to replace under warranty?

Is there a spray paint available the same Titanium trim color/ would it hold up well or scratch easily? Any experience painting these interior plastic pieces?

statdoc-- all covered under warranty. shouldn't be a problem.

wareagle--

you can buy paint to match from your local auto paint supplier in a can... need to have them add flex agent. you would need to scuff the plastic, and do multiple layers else it will chip right off.

it can be done, but not very easily.

I don't see any reason why you can't paint it but like drex said, preparation is necessary actually, critical. I remember from my Boxster ownership that painting the center consoles in P-Cars is really an art and some plastic take paint better than others.

One extra word of caution: Be careful removing the leather boot from the plastic. I hear that the ring that holds the leather on breaks easily and is not sold seperately from the dealer. Ouch!
