E53 2003 Upgrade Maps - How!?
I'm sure this has been answered many times but I can't seem to find the answer! So I picked up my 2003 X5 a couple of weeks ago and now I'd like to upgrade the maps to the latest version with postcode etc. The guy gave me a DVD with the maps on but I can't seem to find out how to actually update the system. I've seen anything from turn the key to position 2, insert disc etc to start the engine and insert the disc and wait 30secs for it to start. Nothing seems to work! How do you get the system to update presuming that the disk is working? If the disc doesn't work where's the best pace to get an update? I've seen lots of sites offering update discs for £25 but not sure if they're reliable. The config menu shows something like version 4 01/1 (I think from memory). Thanks Dan |

Update map discs are normally sourced via the stealer at about £100 a copy. Two versions are produced per year.
There are copies on the web, but as you say, these may not be that reliable and will an all likelihood be pirate copies of the OEM DVD any way. I've never managed to get a reliable copy to work well so have always bought from the dealer every couple of years or so. The operating system upgrade is relatively easy and there's a forum on this Board about Navigation Systems....might be some useful stuff there that could help you....
