New to this forum. I stumbled across this thread after I placed an order for my Hualingan unit from Ctobay. It definitely helped reduce some time on the troubleshooting aspect of the fittment of the unit.

Anyways, everything on the unit works great and I haven't had any problems yet although I haven't tried playing a DVD yet, however I am trying to resolve the GPS issue. My headunit never game with a SD card that had the maps preloaded. From what I understood it was supposed to have the maps on it from Ctobay but I have not heard back from them and I sent out an email a couple weeks ago.

Just wondering if any of you had to download the maps yourself and if so where did you get the maps from and how was it setup? I found some downloadable stuff online but I'm not sure if I should try that or upgrade to a more reputable GPS service like Garmin, if that's possible.
1st of all downloading Garmin into the Hualingan is illegal (in nature) it's like pirated software. So not everyone welcomes this idea. I got my a__ whipped when I entered a map forum asking help on this. My account got blocked

That however didn't stop me from downloading and using Garmin because iGo (the official GPS OS of the Hualingan) does not support the available map in my country hence I have no choice but to install a pirated Garmin Mobile XT application so that I can run the GPS. Garmin does not need to get mad at me because - It's crap! This is due to the low on-board memory of HL. Therefore I don't even bother turning it on becasue it screws up all the other functions of the HL when the memory has been maxed out. Most of the crucial Garmin capabilities cannot run due to HL's low on board memory. I still have to figure out how to increase the HL's RAM. (Help!!!)

My point is, the Hualingan was built for iGo, if iGo has maps for your country then use iGo. From the reviews I've read, it's a fairly good GPS OS.

(BTW, maps are free unlike the Garmin and iGo app. and can be downloaded/ used by anyone)

Please please please post how the "guy" increases the HL memory! This will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

He installed a version of Microsoft Explorer on the SD card, then he ran it like the GPS File path Setting, and then It appears like an Internet explorer page in the screen, but in Chinese, since this guy knew which folder, he checked the memory, but it was set to max already, it appears that they came with the max. setting from factory, but the thing is that they only put the necesary memory to run certain navigation software, like the iGo, Polnav. Route 66 etc, mine was not able to run Destinator 7 or 9, or garmin mobile X/T, I'm still waiting for my new antenna to check if my Gps finally works.

I had no idea that downloading the Garmin software was illegal, but thanks for the heads up.

I don't really have a problem going with the iGo, but I'm just trying to figure out which is the correct/updated version I should have for North American (Canada/US) Maps. I see a lot of different ones available, and I'm not sure which one to get. Some are as big as 3.1GB and the SD card I have (and that is recomended) is only a 2GB card.

I do not want to piss off anyone on this forum, but is it okay to ask where the iGo maps can be gotten from, or even purchased for that matter?

$699 shipped today if you want one. I get all the units tested before shipping and the iGo is fully functional with maps and POIs. PM me if interested.

I just installed the unit with a 40 pin connector. . It was a painful experience having to butcher the frame to fit. There is no coming back to fit the original units.

A couple of questions.

Is the can bus converter being use or connecetd anyway? What is it for?

Where do you connect the "illunination" wire?

The manual show "car settings" icon for setting speed,etc...but this is not visible on the screen. GPS is working but no Nav software or maps. Would a working Nav software and maps provide these features?

It would appear that the following doesn't work anymore?

CD changers - not a show stopper. If it does, how?
Set Speed Limit alert/Time/Date - need to reconnect original unit to reset?

Thanks in advance.

Does anybody know what I would download if I wanted to use Ndrive for my Navigation. My unit did not come with iGO and so I need something. When I go to Ndrive web site they list a few different options but none say windows CE, there is windows mobile..would that work? And is it the maps that I would be downloading?

Or have you found something else to load as the pathway, if so what and where do I find it.

Thanks

Moved BC into glovebox but not working...

Hi guys,
Installed my Hualingan today and thank-you for the fantastic information on this site (had to cut the frame to get it in and this thread was invaluable!)...

Moved the BC into the glovebox and extended the wires...but it isn't lighting up etc...

Confident that the wires were extended correctly and soldered etc...

Should it be? Any ideas why it might not be?

thanks all,

Ian

Did you disconnect and reconnect 1-by-1? as in 1-by-1? I was careful not to short any of the wires with other wires in the cluster. Someone mentioned in another forum that shorting wires would result to a computer error. But you didn't have that so use a continuity tester and test each wire. You can never be too sure.
