All,

now I have all details - the invoice was delivered.

BMW number is 51710398336
cost is € 194.- excl. VAT (parts only)
mounting is not reversible - they needed to cut the read bumper somehow

Looking that number up in Google gives a lot of links. ECS tuning has them in their program for example.

I have bought them from: Home « Autohaus Innerbichler <- german only website

If you need a direct contact there please mail me.

All the best, H

Hi helmuth,
Is this flares kit only for cars with ARBs, as the 3.0D Special Edition?

Do you notice any difference between these rear flares and the 4.6/4.8is,apart from the fact that these dont match up to the 4.6/4.8is rear spoiler? Are they as wide?
Thanks for any feedback

Hi Powers1,

to be honest I have no idea. I only have my 3.0d which had the running boards originally. They seem to be part of the "Österreich package".

But if you provide me a 4.8is to compair (will need it some months for the details) I will create the best writeup you have ever seen

Sorry for not beeing able to be of more help

Helmuth

PS: If you need any pictures from special angles please let me know

Thanks for the quick reply, helmuth I have been making some sums and for those that want the flares but have the 4.8 is rear spoiler, its way cheaper to get the 3.0D special edition kit and then buy the 4.8is rear bumper insert flares .

Hi Powers1,

what are these "4.8is rear bumper insert flares"? My plan was - after winter - to build someting like these parts on the picture. Are you referring to them? If so - is that somthing that can be bought extra?

Any BMW number and price available?

VERY interested, Helmuth

Can you confirm if this part number is for vehicles with OR with out Aluminium running boards, as my understanding is that there are two distinctly different wheel arch extension kits, depending on the above.

for instance if i have a 3.0d sport with running boards is this the appropriate kit
i didnt see an email contact for ECS to ask them directly and living in Australia makes phoning a little difficult

also would i need to do any cutting of my rear bumper or is it the lower part of the extension that needs cutting???

thanks

Hi,

this is for vehicles WITH running boards. The cutting was made by the dealer so I do not have details on that. I was just told that they had to cut "something". I believe you will find out what to cut when you have them. Best guess would be the rear bumper to cut.

Regards, H

Hi Helmuth,
The "4.8is rear bumper insert flares " are the flare bits that go on either side of the bumper and match up with the wheelarch flare. The 3.0D Special Edition "bumper flare" doesnt match up with the 4.8is rear spoiler, hence I said that those witn the rear spoiler can buy the 3.0d special edition flares kit and the 4.8is bumper flare inserts and save money compared to buying a complete 4.8is flares kit, whose pieces are available separately, unlike the 3.0d kit.I hope the photo here is self explanatory but feel free to ask

The picture you circled is the 4.8 is rear spoiler which consists of 3 parts ,the main spoiler and 2 caps for each side(just like the one you circled).Again, you can buy the complete spoiler+caps or just the caps individually ,if you are thinking of just adapting these on the sides of your bumper.
4.8is REAR SPOILER PARTS
#4.Support rear bumper trim 51127062601 .. $404.67
#3.Support cover, left 51127062599 .. $173.43
#3.Support cover, right 51127062600 .. $173.43

You can see these here as well as part #2 which is the 4.8is bumper insert flare"

The 4.8is bumper has slots for this lower part to clip on to.(see pic),but I am not sure about the 3.0D special edition!
In Helmuths case,If the dealer cut "something",then it would make sense that they cut the clips in the flare and just glued it,which what most of us have to do when we fit the flare! But we will never know until we hear from someone who fitted the 3.0d SE flares kit, themselves

This is what needs to be cut to fit the 3.0D Special Edition rear bumper part flares in standard bumpers(non.3.0D SE or 4.8is).These will then have to be glued to the outside of the bumper and also held in place by the 3 bolts on the inside(thanks BENX5)
The bumper doesnt need to be cut.
