Question Rattle noise from Panoramic Sunroof

Hi there. I have a 2004 X5 4.4 with the Pano roof and am suddenly hearing a rattle noise from it on even a slightly rough road. About 5K miles ago I had some whistling noise when it was open to any degree (except vent) at speeds over 30MPH. The dealer adjusted it and it's been great, but now at 26K miles I am hearing an annoying rattle from it that is really annoying. I haven't been back to the dealer yet, given the rig-ama-roll they put me through to get appointments , but plan to go when my next green service light goes out so I can get the oil service etc at the same time. Wondering if anyone else has heard a rattling noise from the roof area in this configuration? It's less noticeable with the shade closed, but even a slightly rough road service makes it really annoying. I hear the noice without regard to roof position- open, closed, vent- all.
Any thoughts on the cause? The roof continues to work as it should in all regards. The X is under factory service and warranty plus CPO.
Thanks!

Hi There,
I currently have a problem with a creaking pano roof on my 05 diesel. It seems to be coming from the left hand side of the roof, over the passengers head, but i guess you have a left hand drive vehicle?.I have spent ages trying to rectify this with lubricating everything i can find, but no luck.My next plan of action is to remove the larger glass section so i can have a really good look.I will keep you informed.Damned annoying problem this, as its spoiling my enjoyment of the car, regards, SIMON.

I noticed some rattling the other day too! I think it is just a product of the headliner being light and rattling when bumps are hit. I don't know what you would do to silence it w/out affecting it opening....

Sorry to re-open an old thread, but has anybody found a solution to this?

In my 2005 with pano roof, a slight rattle has developed in the headliner area directly above the rear seatbacks. The rattle only happens when the roof shade is open. When I close the roof shade, the rattle disappears.

It is not a loud, metal-on-metal sort of sound. It is fairly subtle, yet annoying.

There is a TSB on this issue. Ask your dealer about this.

Technical Service Bulletin....ask them to replace the "sunroof cassette". It may be a backordered part. This was just replaced on my 5/04 4.4 and the noise in the Pano roof is gone. Make sure they get the clips on the "C" pillars back on right...the headliner has to come down for this job, so make sure you don't get a summer intern on the project.

Digging up an old thread...

I too, have the noisy panoramic roof issue. Unfortunately, I cannot find specific details on the TSB pertaining to the moonroof. Would something like this be covered under good faith? I wonder how many "good faith" authorizations each BMW owner is granted? Or is it a case by case basis? My 04 is out of warranty, and is approaching 70k miles. I recently had the transfer case replaced under the good faith thing, so I'm wondering if the dealer would help me out again.

Dan
