Rear passenger door does not open from the inside

Well, the problem this month for my X seems to be the passenger side (right-hand) rear door interior handle. Here's my question; What would cause the mechanism to not release the door latch when you do the "double pull" on the handle? The door lock plunger rises to the unlock position, then it feels like the handle is in free play mode, like it was double locked or something it cannot be opened from the outside either. BUT, here is the catch if I cycle the central locking system once the door opens perfectly. I was thinking the door handle carrier might be the culprit, but the symptoms don't seem to match. I also checked the child lock setting to make sure it was not engaged and I am stumped. Before I take it to the dealer I would like to know if this is something I can fix with a few cheap parts vs. the 50 dollar CPO deductible and a couple days without my truck.
