What scan tool do I need for a 2005 BMW E53 X5 4.8is

Hi, folks. I have a problem with my scan tool from Autoenginuity! It will not read my OBDII in my 2005 E53 X5 4.8is but it will read in my E39 530i! I took it to BMW and they have no problem hooking up to it.
I also used my friend's carsoft and hade the same damn problem!?
And it was not to recently had it trim chipped and the guy who did it hade the same problem so he ended up taking the CPU out to chip it!
So what I need to know is what scan tool do I need?
Lots of help please: James
