2006 Instrument Cluster

The pixels on my instrument cluster are nearly all shot, beyond repairing or fixing and out of warranty.

The instrument cluster needs to be replaced.

So I am thinking to directly buy one for a 2006 with the chrome rings as standard.

Can you please help me answer the following:

Please note that my X5is a EURO spec one.

1- Using realOEM i found this as the latest instrument cluster available for a 2006 X5:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...74&hg=62&fg=05

Which is the one I need (part number) and what is the difference between:

RMFD INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, UNCODED and INSTRUMENTS COMBINATION UNCODED ???

2- Will it work easily (plug & play) or does it need to be installed by the dealer and programmed?

3- Will I loose my current odometer mileage and memory?

Thanks for your help.

Ghani

1. RMFD is short for "remanufactured", which means it is a rebuilt unit.

2. Yes, it is an easy plug-n-play swap and can be done yourself. However, it will need to be recoded at the dealer.

3. No, if you have it recoded at the dealer.

I strongly recommend that you check with your local BMW service department and find out if they will recode a cluster that you didn't buy from that particular dealership.

Hey UCrew,

thanks for the quick answer as always , but just one more check:

From the realoem link above which part number would you think is right:
(is there any difference???)

01 INSTRUMENTS COMBINATION UNCODED KM/H 1 10/2003 62116959119 $708.66
01 INSTRUMENTS COMBINATION UNCODED KM/H 1 10/2003 62116959122 $708.66

Also there should be no problem retrofitting a 2006 cluster in a 2002 ???

Thanks,

G.

Fix Available

I had the same problem with my 2003 X5. Did a search and found a thread on bimmerfest. Apparently this is a known problem. check this thread out -

I wrote to Lenora and she wrote back saying a rep would contace me. I'm hoping for the best.

In my opinion, it is worth a try.

Unfortunately where I am situated we don't have this quality of BMW service , and my warranty has run out.

Thanks.
