Inane an x pipe and exhaust and no issues. Probably due to something else.

I would bet its your intermediate levers, same issue in my 2004 4.4i. Do you ever get a shake in cold weather upon start up?
wait youre in california, you wouldnt experience that. but i would definitely say have them check intermediate levers

Does the X5 have a separate coil for each cylinder? If so, does that mean you had more than one bad coil?
I need to research this. For some reason I thought the X5, at least the 4.8, had 8 coils. |

Yes, 1 coil per cylinder. Either he needed more than one coil, or it wasn't misfiring on all cylinders as originally posted.

Was told one bad coil can cause more than one cylinder to misfire..
Have no idea.
