E70 Sport - Conti DWS review
I just installed a full set of Front and Rear on my E70 4.8 X, with Sport Package and 20's Sizes: 275x40R20 front and 315x35r20 rear Previous tires: Stock Dunlop RFT I never thought that i would such a difference, major change in road noise and ride quality. I felt that i was in a sedan thats how quiet and soft these are. Even with Active suspension, over bumps it felt much softer haven't tested on the performance level, but i'm sure it will be better then stock Dunlop RFT's. Apparently front size is on back order on most sites including tire rack, but i managed to find it here and at a lower price too. this is where i bought them: Discount Tires - Discounttires.com has the lowest prices on tires and wheels, all name brands, and a huge inventory. In most cases, shipping is one to two days guaranteed.

I was going to try these tires out to replace my aging Yokohama Advans. However when I called up a local tire shop they talked me out of it.
They said they've had several X5 customers return them because of the performance issue. Apparently they're lacking in the grip dept. They said they install mostly Toyo Proxes STIIs and that no X5 owners has ever complained about them. I went ahead and ordered Vreds (@perfomaceplus) to see what they're like. Maybe next time we'll have enough feedback to go by. I do want to try the DWS sooner or later. Another factor, but not that big for me, is the Vreds cost less than the DWS. $189 vs $242. This shop didn't have any problems finding the fronts - though they wanted $260 for them. Its okay to pay more if you're going to get more treadwear or more perfomance. One universal thing (no matter the brand) that the shop spoke of, and I can confirm with my personal experience, is that the wear ratio for the X is 2 to 1. Meaning you'll go through 2 sets of rears for each set of fronts. Maybe after the rear vreds wear out, expecting about 10-15K (closer to 10K), I'll try a set of DWS in the rear and see how that goes. Keep us updated! |

I have been saying I wished Continental made the DWS in my 19 in staggered size because I love them on my e36 and they were rated really, really well on TireRack's website. However, I did just notice that on Continental's website, they have the DWS listed as a car tire. If you click on Truck/SUV tires, they do not list the DWS in that catagory. Maybe they were designed to be more of a car tire than an SUV tire?

I know Vred has the Sessanta's for cars and the Sessanta SUV for, well SUV's. Continental doesn't have two versions of the DWS's that I am aware of. They list the ContiCross Contact UHP as their high performance SUV tire.

![]() I can't imagine Continental would make that kind of mistake on their website but ... you never know. I sent corporate an email (Germany) asking to clarify. ![]() EDIT: Seems www.treadepot.com also lists them as passenger car tires not Light Truck/SUV. i got the same set mounted up over the weekend. dig em so far. noticably softer sidewalls than the diamaris i had on previously, but much less $$. plus the place i purchased them through matched tirerack's price. no complaints so far.
like the ability to day trip up to tahoe when its starts to snow a bit for a ski session. havnt really read any bad reviews thus far. ![]() fingers crossed. good looking tire too.

The reviews for these tires on cars are VERY good. However, I searched through the BMW surveys on TireRack's site and found two for X5's. One was good, one was not. It may be possible that the weight of the vehicle may be on the heavy side for the sidewalls. Just a guess, but maybe that is why they are not listed as SUV tires on Continental's website.
