The great AMP debate. Does my X5 have an AMP or not?? I have differing answers

Hi all

I am hoping someone can clear this up for me once and for all.

I have a 2005 (54 Reg) X5. A few weeks ago I lost all sound down one side of my car. Since then I have visited many websites, 1 auto electrical shop and spoke to a few people. All of them seemed to suggest it was the Amp. Some told me the Amp was in the boot under the Air suspension (Next to the Battery), some told me it was in the Passenger Quater panel near the CD Changer. However, I just spoke to a very well renowned BMW (Indepoendant) Garage who told me this:

"That is not your Amp in the boot. Those two Silver boxes side by side are your Radio Tuner and your TV tuner. YOUR X5 DOESN'T EVEN HAVE AN AMP. Your fault is more than likely something to do with the DVD player you have wired in with screens in the headrests".

So my question is...........

DOES my E53 have an Amp or not?????

I'm baffled

Please help

If it does, what colour is it?
What does it look like?

Help.....................................

Do you know if you have the premium sound system? i.e. Do you have DSP controls on your menu? Also were the headrest TVs installed aftermarket / did a BMW dealer do them?

i've always assumed the amp is in the right rear storage compartment area. near the fuses. you can check if you have one on the nav screen. dsp.

yes --- your radio has a amp. do you have DSP ??. some has a AMP in the left side compartment in the rear under the CD changer and some has it under the spare tire well by the battery. mine is under the CD player bolted up behind the Blue tooth interface module (EVEREST IBUS US Module). its black, square about 8inch by 8inch with one main multi wire plug. when you get to it you cant miss it. the tag say model no. AMP E53

Go to the third picture in this thread http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...s-harness.html. There are three plug attached to the top of the amp.

That is the DSP amp in the left side of the trunk.
