Time for new tire and I need advice on what others have used in the past.

I need to change my four tires but I don't know what to change them to.
Currently they're the OEM Michelin Energy tires size 255/55R18.

Any advice on what tires are good or bad? TireRack.com has the oem for about $800 and no name tires for about $450.

Appreciate any help you can give.

I was pretty happy with my Michelin MXV4 (Energy). Have they worked well for you? If so, get the same again. They are well suited to the X5.

If I had needed to replace mine, I would have gone with the same. I have had the same tires on other BMW vehicles, and have been happy with them there as well.

I was bored, so I perused TR site, looking at tires in your size; interestingly, the oe Micheys get so-so reviews, though I thought they were pretty good on my orig 18" wheels.

From a glance, disregarding the non-rated/lower "rated" tires, I suppose I would look at, in no particular order:
Kuhmo Road Venture, Kuhmo Solus, GY Fortera, General Grabber, Michey Latitude,(but pricey), Yoko Geolander, Yoko Avid Envigor, and a couple others.

Picks simply from scanning the review "ratings", and price.

The TR link I used, (yes, I plugged in our car, but wheel size is the same as yours.) I knocked off all winter tires, tires speed rated above "V", some brands I have never hear of, etc., and whittled that link list down to about ~25 tires.
