Auxiliary Water pump?
Ive read and looked on RealOEM and searched the boards here but from what i see the 3.0 doesnt have an auxiliary water pump but the V8s do. But realoem still lists one now i havnt got to look under the hood but I was ordering parts so i though its easier to ask. so does it? |

Model of 3.0, diesel or gasoline? Year of manufacture? Geographic location (ie marketing region)? Your profile doesn't say.

Check out realoem. If you haven't looked at it before, you can specify your model and month of manufacture, and look up factory parts. This appears to be your auxiliary water pump, item 15 in the link:

Thanks JCL yea i saw that but for some reason i thought that ive never seen anything like that under the hood....and most people who have replaced theirs have been owners of V8s so....anyhow now is the question of should i replace it or not?
ok so after digging around the engine found that the 3.0 does have the aux water pump located under the air intake tube the big one going to the engine from the air box. the pump is located right under it in a rubber holding clamp. I think that before replacing ill just take it out and stick a tube to it with one end in coolant and run 12V and see how it functions. Has anyone replaced theirs? |

I haven't heard of them being a failure point.
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...pump-fail.html killcrap in the link above is a BMW dealer technician. I'd go with his recommendation.

Ok well then ill do as the others did = = if no noise then its ok. i suppose so. I guess even if it fails its pretty easy to change it out. its not to cramped there. Well thanks for the input JCL

no to thread jack, but didnt think it was worth starting a new thread over the topic.
my US 4.6is i think may be making that "wumping" noise that killcrap was describing in that link that JCL put up. i actually couldnt locate it cus i didnt have time to look for the aux water pump, but when the heat is turned on, i hear some sort of "wuhhhhhhh" sound that constantly goes on for a few second and off for a few seconds. the sound comes predominantly from under the driver's/left side head light but can be heard inside the cabin. anyone know if this sound i am hearing may be the aux water pump? TIA |
