New Owner Question

My I have the 16:9 Nav with Original FW/SW installed, I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to updating or upgrading it. I would prefer to do the free method if possible. I have already done extensive searching on the forums and have only found broken links due to old age. I currently have the original FW installed from back in 2001. I really hate the way it looks, SO OUTDATED.... So if someone can please help me. Its a 2001 e53 4.4i and it has DSP if that helps. Thanks

Are all links in the main v32 release thread dead?

It goes around by the filename "NAV_SW(v32).rar", so this might help:
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&expIds=...8a743f8bb10773
for instance the 7th result.

You can either check the version displayed on your headunit menu, or you can open the trunk compartment and check the unit inside there. MK4 should have the DVD logo right under the DVD slot. Otherwise it should be a MK3 unit. Or you can post the photo here.

I Believe its a MKII Unit. When i go in to "set" it says 2 first. So what version of software can i use? I just downloaded v27.. It would be awesome to use that if i can

Yeap, 2-X/XX should be MKII. You can basically update with any version you wish. Look for the SIB of the version you have picked, to see what features/fixes it brings, for instance:

Im just really afraid to "brick" my nav lol So I CAN use v32 on my MkII? and will it change the GUI to the new style so it doesnt look outdated? Also I have updated with v27 and Nothing looks different.. Im not sure if it correctly updated. The status bar was 100% and it ejected the disc but ABSOLUTLY nothing looks different except now it has the accept screen when you turn the car on when before it was only when you went into navigation. any help here or ideas?

I was in a similar situation with my newly purchased 2003 X5 with DSP/nav. The screen flickered and I wasn't impressed with the audio quality. I recommend replacing your system with all new hardware. You're not going to get much of an update using the same hardware. Besides, any ten year old system is bound to die before long.

Navigation systems have come a long way since your vehicle was built. I ended up scrapping my entire stock setup and installing a new aftermarket system. If you don't want to pay for a brand new system then just make do what what you got
