So, almost a year after I replaced the 2nd Air sensor, the SES came back last month. Went to Autozone, same code P1419. Maybe it's a winter routine. Or could be the valve needs to be cleaned or just needing a new valve. I find it hard to believe the sensor lasts only 10-11 months.

Coincidentally is that every time I do something proactive, ie: replaced the O2 sensors a week or two before this SES light went on, I get something discouraging. My X5 just made to the 100K mark so I thought I'd take care of it.

Oh yeah, I also replaced the Spark Plugs and that does seems to restore a bit power lost over time and reduced the quick/sudden acceleration that I've experienced sometimes.

I had the same thing happened to my X5. I had to replaced the sensor twice. The first time, it only lasted about a year. The second has lasted me over 5 years. Before replacing anything, try to clean the valve. I also got the P1419 code once, cleaned the valve and it went away for a couple of days. At that time, I figured that the valve was too dirty inside and was going to keep getting stuck. I decided to replace it and I haven't gotten the P1410 code for over 4 years.

To follow up. I followed ArmyX5's suggestion, took the valve off and cleaned it through. I also cleaned the secondary airflow sensor with a MAF cleaning spray. When I inspected the pressure pipe connecting the air pump and the valve, I noticed some moisture in the pipe (condensed water) which I thought was a bit weird.

Before I cleaned the valve, I tried to blow through it and it does allow air going one direction to the engine block. So, I don't know how that mechanics works or if something in the stuck or blocking.

So, I couldn't be definitive on whether cleaning the senor or the valve done the trick. After I reset the code, it hasn't been back for the last 7 days.

Hi all,

Can someone please post the instructions on how to do the cleaning of both valves/sensors? I am having rough/low idle issues lately. I just replaced the DISA Valve, which was broken(Pin was still on it/did NOT go into engine). I'm wondering if my MAF is bad or dirty. I have 158K miles on my '04 X5 3.0i. Thanks for any help/advice!

Steve

if you go back to page 1, you will see the 2 red circles in the picture. You disconnect those parts. Removing the sensor with a Phillip screw driver untighten the metal bracket. You should unhook the pressure pipe connected to the valve by squeeze the lock and twist. You remove the EGV (I think that's the name of that valve) by unscrew the 2x10mm nuts. You should be careful unscrew and screw them back as the space is limited there. You should inspect the pressure pipe to ensure no air leak as the air into the valve blows air into the engine block.

I cleaned the secondary MAF with MAF sensor cleaning solution from AutoZone. I cleaned the valve with brake cleaner (might not be the best option, but that's all I have in stock). Hope this helps.

So far, the SES light hasn't returned yet. Knock on wood..

Steve,

It sounds like you have an air leak somewhere. If your MAF or the valve/sensor were bad, the check engine light would come on.

^yup, sounds like something not related to the secondary air injection system.

As mentioned, check for air leaks at the engine air intake area between the engine air flow meter and intake manifold.

The big rubber intake elbow is a common culprit, it starts cracking at the creases and gets worse over time.

Well,

I believe it is that time again! I need to replace the valve after 5 years. The P1419 code came back a month ago. I cleaned the valve and it was good for about a month. It seems the cold weather makes the valve get stuck more often than in warm weather.
