P1419
Hi guys,
The "check engine soon" light went on on my 2005 X5 (53k miles). After reading I got the P1419 code - secondary air system - air mass flow sensor disconected or stuck signal- Does anyone have the same problem ? -waht it is, what needs to be replaced , how much etc etc... Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I had this problem a couple of times and the first time was the secondary air sensor, the red circle on the left. About a month ago the same code came back and I was told by Weasel to take the valve off and clean it. I did and it worked. Didn't have to spend a cent. Only take it off, red circle on the right, and clean it. It should be a 20 minutes job. I hope this help.

Old thread, but I'll post up my solution for a future lurker (like I was).
I had the same code - and there is a second mass air flow sensor as indicated in the prior post. I tried to clean mine as well - no resolution. I then removed the valve to make sure that it wasn't stuck. It wasn't so that removed that as being possible. I then removed the hose that attaches to the air pump to the valve and started the car (it has to be cold). The pump ran for about 30-45 seconds and sounded like a vacuum cleaner as it should. Final possibility was the mass air flow sensor as well. With the car running I backprobed the wiring harness with a DVM. The ground was good, the 12V supply was good, but the third wire (which was the signal wire) was reading 0V - meaning it was not returning a signal to the computer and triggering the SES code. No cleaning would take care of that - so I had to replace it. I really didn't want to shell out over $100 for a new one. So I searched around and found a rebuilt one at RockAuto for around $50 after core return. I tried it thinking I could return it if it was a POS. But 1 week later no issues. Time will tell but so far - so good. Hope this helps someone else. |

P1419 on a 2002 3.0i
A little help here. I have read the threads on this P1419 code and I have also cleaned out the Valve which was heavily sooted. After cleaning the valve and checking the hose I cleared the code and SES light was off for about 2 days. Fast forward to today and fooking light is back with the same code. Unfortunately I do not have that secondary MAF shown in the picture above on my 2002 3.0i, what I do have is part #6 in this diagram:
![]() Can someone with a pre-facelift E53 that has had this code share in their possible solutions. TIA!

I have a 2005 x5 3.0 and my wife drives it. Last month, I smelt burned engine oil whenever after drove it for like 10 minutes. So, I ordered a valve gasket from BavAuto and replaced that gasket. The old one was pretty hard. Now, the burned oil smell is gone and It was driving good for a week or so. After the last gas fill up, the SES light came on. I took it to Autozone and had the guy there read the code: P1419 and P0174. P0174 is system running lean, p1419 indicates the secondary Air Flow Senor not working. I think I'm going to replace the sensor first and hopefully, that will take care of P0174.
Does that sound like a way to go? I don't know how easy is it to take the valve off to clean. thanks. Last edited by monty_yao; 12-17-2014 at 10:23 PM. |

Just to follow up.
I cleaned the valve and that didn't help. I then ordered the secondary air sensor and reset the code. After 2+ week, the CES light is still not ON yet so I'm going to assume this is a good remedy. |
