Winter Tires, what do you recommend

The stock 19'" wideboy tires are horrible in the winter. I've gone thru 2 sets of take offs and need new tires. Ive been using 17" stock wheels and the stock michelins that came on them. They've been great and would go for another set if i could find em. what tires are guys using? I dont want big knobby tires that are going to sing on the highway. my tire guy wants me to use some goodyear all seasons $125 each.

For winter tires (if you are swapping them out every six months) I like Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow, Bridgestone Blizzaks (I have used a few different models, including LM60 and WS60), Michelin X Ice (a generation back from the current model), and Dunlop Wintersports (currently using M3 Wintersports). Decide if you want deep snow performance, ice performance, what ambient temperature range you will be in, etc. There are lots of good winter tires out there these days from the name brand tire makers.

i dont drive in the snow unless i have to. but sometimes we have to. i think anything with good treads will work with the 4 wheel drive. i want tires i can still get some performance out of on dry roads too. thanks

That was important to me as well, I am on wet and dry roads for most of the winter, with monthly trips to family 650 km away in the mountains. Four mountain passes to cross each way, so lots of freeze/thaw and poor conditions. The Dunlop Wintersports and Bridgestone Blizzaks both did very well in those conditions. When you do your research (Tire Rack is good) you will see winter tires grouped into Snow Tires, Ice Tires, Performance Winter Tires, Studless Winter tires, and so on. On this and other boards all these categories tend to get lumped together as snow tires, but it sounds like you want a performance winter tire, not a deep snow tire. Good luck.

I've got Blizzaks and I love them. Mind you mine are oversized 285/60/R18s rear and 265/55/R18 front but my speedo is bang on and I got a little more lift also by going bigger.

Blizzaks

I'm on the Minnesota/Wisconsin border. We just got hammered with almost 23inches of snow and I had no problem getting around town with Blizzaks when other cars were getting stuck everywhere.
