New Jersey X5 Owner - NEED HELP!!!

OK, so I bought an X5 4.8is. I'm having transmission problems. Is there anyone in he Philly or New York metro areas that can help?? I've read that sometimes what seem to be major transmission problems are actually not that major at all. I got screwed big time by the dealership that sold me the X and Im not going to get screwed by my local dealership with the repair. If anyone can help or has any advice please let me know. Thanks!

Hi there,

I just read your other thread and I have a question now, when you get a Trans Fail warning what are you actions? How do you feel the X? If you stop, does it go slow even with a full throttle? Does the Failsafe mode go away once you restart the X?

Bad battery? Bad Alternator?

It doesn't upshift or downshift. I can put it into reverse, but when in drive it doesn't shift at all. It initially only gave me the trans failsafe warning when i accelerated moderately and then suddenly it just wouldnt shift at all. My third trip to the dealer in 10 days is when they actually checked the trans fluid and found metal shavings.

I think having the shavings present would be considered as a Torque Converter failure.I read here that TC failure is a common thing for your 4.6 and 4.8,I think.
I wouldn't drive the X any further and just would research an independent transmission garage and get it towed there(will be cheaper to get it rebuilt there) unless the dealer sold it to you is gonna recognize that they were butt holes by selling you the X with a broken tranny and will take care of replacement one for free.
