As promised, here are the pictures

Some are a bit blurry, but not enough to obscure the parts or process. It's very simple, but I just wanted to be as clear as possible to eliminate the confusion I had looking at so many posts. By taking these parts off, you can clean them up and put them back on, hopefully getting the same results I did. This completely cured the knock/tock/rattle coming from the tailgate area.

As described in my original post, I addressed (taped) loose wires inside the inner tailgate panels that may have produced some higher frequency rattles. This combo has worked!

Thank you to those who have posted previously on the topic-it certainly helped to consider the potential causes of the dreaded rattle.

i had 3 rattles back there. one was the same 2 stoppers. they were hard as rocks so i replaced. another was the jack hold down strap had snapped, replaced that and the third was a 10 mm matco socket i found under the spare tire! i'm all snap-on, so it must be from the dealer. (when i finally found it, i threw it in the woods haha) serenity now, serenity now. all's quiet now.

Nice pics calicolorado, thanks for posting them.

I had trunk rattle, misalignment of the trunk doors, and trunk lid would not open automatically (three clicks). I eliminated my trunk rattle by placing velcro tape (soft side) around the trunk latch, but I think the rubber stoppers were actually causing most of my problems.

I spent a good 10-15 minutes playing around with different adjustments until I found the right height for both rubber stoppers. First, I adjusted the stoppers all the way to their lowest point and softly closed the trunk lid to test it. Then I adjusted them a half-turn higher and tried closing the trunk again. I repeated this until the trunk lid closed tightly (no wiggle room) and quietly (no harsh clank when you shut it).

Now the trunk doors align correctly when closed, and the trunk actually opens when I push the button. I haven't removed the velcro tape from the trunk latch so I don't know if the rubber stopper fix alone would have stopped the rattle noise.

rattles are the worst. one of my kids put a marble in the overhead dvd. it drove me NUTS. had to take it apart to get the marble out. Don't know about you guys but I have friends that like to bust balls about "mr fancy car". Can't have any rattles when they're in the car or I never stop hearing about it.

You also need to look at where the top part of the boot locks with the bottom half. If you look there should be two rubber stops with plastic caps, one each side of the lock in the bootom half of the boot...if that makes sense
