The brake lining warning sensor depends on continuity in the sensor circuit to stay off. If the circuit is interrupted it comes on, whether it is due to the pads being thin, or the connector to the sensor being loose and not making a good connection. Not likely due to cold weather in my experience, unless the wire is damaged. Have you determined which sensor it is?

Sorry to revive this thread but I'm having problems reseting my alarm after i have replaced the front and rear pads. I left the ignition key in ON position for 5 mins and the alarm still hasn't reset. What am I missing?

Did you replace the sensors? If so, then you may have a bad connnection where the sensor connects, or a bad sensor. If you didn't replace the sensors, start there.

Thanks for that, so should there be no resistance across the two wires?
Will check it with a multimeter this afternoon. Apologies for Hi-jacking this thread, hopefully we'll both learn from this.

Sometimes on E39,E46 and E53 the warning light doesnt come out even after replacing both pad wear sensors with OEM ones.Try this:turn the igniton on,remove the brake fluid reservoir cap, lift it a inch high(simulate low brake fluid) for a second or 2,replace the cap and the light should go off.
