Remote control for auxiliary heater

Hi there,

Ive just joined and need a little help with with my auxiliary heater remote control. I have a 2006 X5 3.0d and can programme the car to warm up manually but I also have the fob but I have never been able to get it to work, the manual tells me to hold the button down for 2 secs to turn it on (should keep flashing for 30mins or so) but will only flash for around 5 seconds. Now the snow has started to hit the UK getting this thing to work would be great!!!!
If any one could help..................

Ben
