How much did your dealer charge you? Mine quoted me $365 for the software upgrade which includes "everything" related to the system that may need upgrading.

A local indy quoted me $150 for the software upgrade. Sounds too good to be true? WIll this be a situation of 'you get what you paid for .. . "? BTW, this is a very reputable shop.

Dealer charged me around $250 to update the software and Navigation.
I had all that plus an oil change (with the expensive oil) for $375 after tax and shop supplies.
Your dealer is trying to stick it to ya. Tell the SA that you want a price to update the DME and EGS only. Shouldn't be more than $200.

Thanks for the advice. I spoke to the indy and I trust him . . . for now. He plans to give me the full software update (claims they get the update from the BMW site so it will be the latest and greatest software upgrade). If I don't need the upgrade then he'll run for code errors for $100. I'm having him update the tranny software as well, again, assuming I don't have the latest version for $150. If I have the latest version for the tranny, he'll reset my defaults and hopefully that will resolve my tranny problem (it slams in to gear from 0-1st - sometimes from a rolling stop).

All told, should run me around $350 for the software updates and a tranny fluid check. Doesn't seem like a bad deal.

hoaesq, any update on your starting problem? The DME and ESG update didn't help on mine. Here is my thread a while back...

fmugur,

No update yet. Got busy, went out of town for a week and have not dropped off the car since. I think I am going to change the plugs first and see what happens. I've read a number of post that the software upgrade helped and others didn't. Not sure if I want to waste a good $150.
