hands free phone in 02 x5?

i have the phone button on radio and steering wheel on my 02 x5 with nav. is there any way to hook my phone to make it hands free. it looks like 02 didnt have bluetooth, but is there wiring somewhere to plug my phone in? someone once told me i had to buy a bmw phone for it to work.

What that person told you is correct - your X5 is prewired for an old Motorola/Nokia phone that would probably be of no use to you. There is no way to turn it's adaptor into a bluetooth one easily. If you are interested in bluetooth, the most economical and rational route would be to install a Dice Mediabridge (http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-related-...-shipping.html). It will require you to sacrafice your 6-CD changer (if you have one), but will give you full bluetooth capabilities with your phone (including streaming music) for about $300.

thanks bro,
im not opposed to having to plug my phone into something to go hands free. doesnt have to be bluetooth. also i already dumped my cd changer for a dice ipod player. would i lose that to get the bluetooth?

From what I understand, there's no way to plug in modern phones to that system. Only a few old phones would have worked. As for the Ipod connection, you will lose the entire Dice Ipod player (you can sell it), but the Mediabridge will do everything your Ipod player did and more (bluetooth).
