Brief video of me pulling a truck out of the snow the other day. Disregard the audio. LOL FYI- My X5 has 275 F/ 315 R Michelin Latitudes.

Wow, that's an insane amount of snow. I'm talking more like light snow. Hah! I'm guessing the debate is between the Pirelli's and the Michelin's. Anyone else with insight between these two?

The inner side on rears are showing more wear than I care to see on mine, and I ran into this price on Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetr SCORPION ZERO ASIMMETR
They are out of stock for 4 weeks, but I can wait for a $100 difference.

Just FYI, I am running the Bridgestone Dueler HP's on my 4.4 with 19"s. In the dry they drive fine, but they are wearing out very quick. And I do align at least every 5K. So that really sucks. With the recent snow, my E39 can get around better than the X5 with these tires..

I'm not going back to the Bridgestone Dueler tires next time for sure!

word of warning to 4.4 Sport Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico lovers - Pirelli has stopped making size 285/45-19! TireRack is out of stock and indicated that Pirelli has no plans to replenish that size! huge bummer. was looking forward to putting a fresh set on the X this spring.

TireRack recommends the following as alternatives:
Kumho Ecsta STX KL12 (Street/Sport Truck All-Season) - $850
Hankook Ventus AS RH07 (Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season) - $886
Kumho Solus KL21 (Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season) - $962
Michelin Latitude Tour HP (Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season) - $1238

anyone have experience with these? I'm not pleased with the prospect of having to bolt a Korean tire on to my X.

I just put the Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport on my 19" rims about 3 weeks ago. Tirerack has them for $886 before shipping for the set.

Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport RFT

I went ahead and paid about $1,100 at the local Bridgestone store for the Bridgestone tires mounted and balanced and road hazard protection. I also believe Costco sells them too. Love they way they handle and they look nice on the car too.

Out of that list I'd only consider the Michelin's.

I have the 19' Hankook Ventus A/S and have been very happy with them so far. Used to have 19' Diamaris/17' winters before. Got tired of the switching and I don't go far north for skiing anymore. Softer ride than the Diamaris and not bad in the snow - no snow/winter tire certainly. A/S is ofter called 'no season' but has been a good compromise for my driving needs - YMMW.
Also, talked with two tire guys who I trust before I switched.

...only way you'll get an unbiased opin. is from someone who has run two or more of these sets and can make a real comp. - otherwise it's a 'mine are best'/'happy-unhappy with mine' opin.

GL

This is a big bummer. I was planning on putting the Pirelli's on my X soon as my Diamaris are getting close to worn out.
IndianapolisX5: What are your opinions on the Pirelli's? Maybe a local shop still has the size?

Thanks for the thoughts on the Bridgestones & Hankooks.

AZ - the Pirellis have been awesome. I prefer them to the Diamaris in every way - better ride, grip, wear, and looks.
Called around to a few local shops today and found a set of Scorpions at Discount Tire for $1300! (as opposed to $850 when TireRack had em).

Then I had a potentially pricey idea - nurse my Scorpions through spring, summer & fall, then replace them with snows - turn my 19's into a dedicated winter set.
Ask Santa for a set of 87's and bolt on the best looking E53 wheel when next spring rolls around. Any thoughts?
