Battery light flashing on start up
Just a quick question... On start up once the engine has fired the battery light is illuminating for a very short time-literally 0.5 sec. It flashes upon the commencement of the engine firing if that makes sense. Its never done this before and I was just wondering if this is a sign of the battery finally giving in. It has been on its last legs since I bought the car about 2 years ago and its been a particularly cold winter this year... Any thoughts? |

Forgot to mention.. the light flickers dimly for about a second or two once the engine is running from this point. Anyone, any ideas?

What model year? Original battery? If it is 5 years or more, I would just replace it first, and then check that the new battery is charging properly.

Thanks for the reply JCL. Its 2001, I don't know what age the battery is. But I've had the car for nearly 2.5 years and its always been borderline giving up the ghost! Was actually thinking of replacing about a year ago after I was working on the car for about an hour, only had the radio on (at low volume) and it was flat as a pancake. But like an old warhorse it has kept plodding...

Just replace it. A low battery can cause other problems with all of the computerized systems on board. It is false economy to keep trying to get by on it.

I wonder how many people know (or don't know) you that you can just hit the radio button and the radio will turn on for 10 minutes (without turning the ignition switch)

Why don't you stop by one of the many auto parts stores that will test your battery for free? I'm assuming they also do that on your side of the pond.
