Disabled or broken?

When I shift in reverse I get a lengthy nose from the PDC, but when someone walks behind the vechicle it doesn't beep, any ideas?

Mine makes no sound when shifting into reverse. When you walk past either bumper, it, chirps.

Had this problem when I first got my X - one of the rear sensors had its inner sleeve broken and amateur "repaired", was pointing incorrectly. Could also be a bad or unplugged sensor as JLW says...

The lengthy noise and the PDC button blinking is actually a warning that the PDC system is not working.
