code said several misfires on #2 cylinder
my buddy took his girl's '06 x5 4.4 (65k miles)out the other night when she was out of town. he cleared the cob webs out of it (if you know what i mean). anyways, check engine light came on. he took it to a garage and guy says report says #2 cylinder several misfires. car is running strong. no skipping, nothing. he called me in a panic today. i said try a system reset after that it's out of my league lol.

could be a plug, coil pack or leaky injector. I would start with the plugs.

Hahahaha.... nice story. Took the girls X5 ..... called me in a panic.
Seems he has a different problem then an error code. Good luck to him :-) |

You need an OBDII scanner to clear the codes. If he doesn't have one he can take it to an autozone and they can do it for free. But if the cylinder has multiple misfires, it will likely come back. Definitely at least check the plug on that cylinder before anything else.

My 06 4.4 threw some misfire codes last winter. When I took it in to my local shop, they checked everything and everything looked good. They cleared the codes and drove around and could not find a problem. They told me to drive it and let them know if it came back. The codes never did.

Had several misfire codes of late. Happens especially in cold weather. Codes list multiple misfires 2/6/8/ cylinders, misfire in cylinder 4 and 7. Car runs like crap. Sounds like a clown car. If you restart the car, it runs perfectly. Indie shop said there is a directive from BMW about this. Said they need to remove valve covers, and get manufature date for rocker arms. If they fall within a specific date range, they all need to be replaced. Car won't pass emissions test (Wisconsin) as is. Is anyone famiiar with this directive. If anyone has done this repair, can you give me an idea of what the cost will be.
