True story: I moved to Edmonton as a new branch manager from BC (transfer with the same company). Day one, I went out together with a veteran sales rep to meet some customers. Got into his Impala, looked for a place to plug in the seat belt. No visible connector. Dug around a bit. He asked me what I was doing, and I told him I was planning to use the seatbelt. He wasn't using his. He gave me a lecture on how no company policy or government was going to tell him to wear a seatbelt, where to smoke, or to register his guns. I wondered how we got on to firearms from seatbelts, but he was quoting the phrase about prying his cold dead fingers off them, and he was crossing in between guns, seatbelts, no-smoking areas, and then he got to the NEP. It was a classic rant. I guess I never forgot it.

I lived in Alberta twice, three years each time. Great place, I still have lots of friends in GP, Edmonton, Fort Mac, and Calgary. I have a daughter living in Calgary. I visit regularly. I agree that it isn't all of Alberta, but it seems to me there is still some of the Texas North philosophy there.

Apologies for the generalization. So I gather you don't have quite that many guns in the back of your X5?

Absolutely no offence taken. I agree that there is a "Texas North" philosophy around here...fiercely independant and hard-working bunch...and I actually take some pride in that. However, even living here for 45 years (I'm an exec with a large E&P company) I have yet to run into anybody who discusses their gun ownership. Just not the folks I hang with.

fyi...back of my X5 is typically filled with hockey equipment or musical instruments for the kids!!

"Trouble is you guys drive on the wrong side, and all my BMWs are diesels." Don't worry you get used to it and there are plenty of diesel pumps!

I always have incredible interesting talks with the guys from the exotic car club because when they hear about being able to shoot a 50cal or cut up paper with a SMG or handgun, their eyes light up like a kid's face at Christmas. LOL
Not everyone has to own one to want to beg for the opportunity to come out to the range and have some safe fun. Because, the company has worked closely with the City Police and T.A.C. team (SWAT) we learn a lot about the laws surrounding firearms and with that it's comforting to know that when it comes to protecting yourself and your family within your own home from a violent break in, the law is on your side. That all being said, even a police officer involved in a justified incident with his issued handgun or long gun is at the mercy of a properly articulated statement. VERY IMPORTANT!!! That could be said for any altercation where your statement is taken for that matter.
I do a lot of teaching as part of sales in this particular industry and qualifying clients on their intentions for purchasing the type of firearms of interest is just standard practice.

If any of the member from Calgary or surrounding area ever want to get together for a session at the range this is an open invitation to contact me. My door is always open for the avid shooter or the guy that hasn't ever held a gun. It's always a good time had by all with much learnt in the process.

Not seen one recently. Mind you I only moved up here from Surrey 11 years ago.

Just a small safety tip for you in Vegas. Do not mess with Metro. 17+ officer involved shootings this year and the officers have been cleared every time. Some really sketchy ones in many people's opinion (fatally shot an unarmed man with that needed a cane to walk ). Don't know all the facts but I know enough to keep out of harms way.

BTW: are those supressors I see on some of those weapons?

Have fun in Vegas. Please leave all your money here, we really need it.

The TP-9s can come with a dummy can which is kind of cool. The M4 i had designed to look like an SD version. It actually holds my pic rail on. lol

Thanks for the tip on the cops in Vegas though. I'm pretty tame most of the time. There might be a high speed pursuit on the way down from Canada though. lol
We're picking up a highway patrol officer buddy on our way down. He's a bit of a gun guy too. Our get out of jail free card, I hope we don't have to use. lol

check the speedtrap registry online for known speed traps in the US.

I drove from Vegas to DC and back this year via two different routes (mainly I-70 in the summer, and mainly I-40 in the winter). The patrols were out with a vengence almost the entire drive. Lots of speed traps, especially in Utah (sneaky speed traps -- well thought out). I didn't get a ticket, but plenty of other people did.

State budgets are in the dumper and they need revenue so put your Valentine 1 up and be on the lookout. 7 to 9 mph over would be the max safe speed to avoid a ticket on the open interstate. Any faster than that you need to be very vigilant and have a flyer in front to draw out the radar guns. Construction zones have low speed tolerance if any b/c they have double fines.

BTW: you PM box is full...
