2001 3.0 Litre POST O2 Oxygen Sensor replacement HOW TO

I have an error for POST catalytic converter O2 Oxygen Sensor and want to do it myself. On the SIX cylinder the two pipes are very close together and in a tight spot. I will get a tool designed to help but it looks as if the mid section of exhaust pipes need to be unbolted and lowered. I have also read that the professional procedure says to lower the exhaust. Has anyone done one lately on a very similar X5. DO not chime in on V-8, please as this would be a lot easier due to separate sides and 50% more room to work. Also I ordered Bosch 15109 sensors and would love to know for sure if they are 100% compatible.
Also even if I get the sensors of fine... can I get access to the PLUG easily? Thanks!!

There is no need to lower the pipe, it is tight, but you can get it with an O2 sensor removal tool.

On the other hand......Once I got them out, I had to put them back in, because I have no idea where the plug is. I have searched and cant find any info - this makes me think I am being an idiot and overlooking something simple......

Anyone know where the rear O2 sensor plugs in and how you get to it?

Thanks in advance....

I actually just attempted it the other day...

You can sorta trace the wire back up. Its under the vanity cover that's on top of the valve cover. You'll have to remove that to get to it. All 4 of the connectors are under there.

I tried to do this when the engine was cold and that led to ntothing but frustration. In hindsight I remember doing one after I came home from work and let the car sit for about 2 hours. Still use some work gloves as you don't want to get burned.

Get the front end of the car as high up as you can. Taking off the right wheel will get you some extra space to work but not necessary. I say to get it up high because you'll likely want to get a longer ratchet for some extra torque & leverage.

On mine (2001 3.0i) the 2 post cat connections are under that cover, and the 2 pre cat ones are mounted in plain sight on the left side of the engine (if standing in front of X) The 2 post cat wires travel down the rear of the engine, through a few little clips on the way down (1 accessible from top all the way to the back of engine bay, and two accessible from underneath by following the wires up with your hand almost to the point where it gets too tight for your hand to follow it any further). I just used a 22mm Craftsman Crows Foot Socket from Sears, and they came right out. They're anti-seized at the factory (or so I've been told) but regardless they came right out.
