Oil leakage 2002 x5 3.0

Hey guys,

I have noticed that my x5, which has 105k miles on it, has been leaking small amounts of oil. I've been doing some research and it seems like the most common problem is the valve gasket cover. So my question is, how much would it cost to fix this? If I ignore it, how much worst will the problem be in the future? Thanks for the help!

I have a 01 3.0i. My valve cover gasket was leaking also. First found out when I replaced the spark plugs, they were covered in oil.

I am sure there may be many reasons why a valve cover gasket starts to leak but in my case it was the oil separator. The starting symptoms of oil separator problems was also the yellow mud under the oil cap. You can read alot of post about it here on the forum.

I did the work myself so I only paid for parts, which was about $500 for everything. Hoses os dip stick gasket etc. I live in Norway though. If you live in US you can probably get it for half the price or less. The gasket was about $50. If you want a shop to do it for you they will prob charge you for 2-3 hours for the job. The rate her is about $100 an hour or more. I'm sure it must be cheaper where you live. This is why I do it myself
