A growing concern for my 4.8is

Everything seems to be great with my new purchase except for one thing.

When I put it in reverse and turn my wheels there is a CLUNK or bump when I start to move. Anybody have an idea what it is. DOesnt do it going forward and it seems to do it more if it goes over a small bump like from the driveway to street.

I had the same issue with my E53 3.0 and I believe it was either the CV joints or the steering rack went bad. I never figured out exactly what was wrong since there were other issues with the car as well so I decided to trade it in for an E70 4.8 just 2 weeks ago.

A typical symptom of bad CV joint is a clunking sound at low speeds while turning and it is repeatable. If it's only in reverse, I doubt its a CV joint, although in this case you would hope its a CV joint becuase its a simple repair.

Your issue sounds like a transmission problem. Either the electronic shifter part or the actualy transmission is at fault.....

It could be something as simple as a plastic trim piece out of alignment. I had an issue with a Mitsi 3000GT VR-4 that I'd get a pop everytime I engaged 1st gear. They replaced the clutch and everything but didn't fix it. Finally someone listened from outside the car and heard it more towards the front. They then found a plastic under pan that was popping against the frame from the torque of the clutch engagement.
